Early today a call was received at Pocahontas County High School that required a school lockdown and notification to law enforcement. Once on scene at the high school and out of an abundance of caution our Sheriff's Department recommended lockdown at all schools while they investigated. We are dismissing on a regular schedule. We thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate this situation of keeping all students and staff safe.

Earlier today at Pocahontas County High School, a belt on a compressor heating unit in the band room malfunctioned. As a precaution, the school initiated a fire safety drill and evacuated students to the auditorium while the fire department was contacted. The fire department has since assessed the situation and confirmed that there is no ongoing risk. All students have safely returned to their classrooms, and normal operations have resumed. At this time, the school’s phone system is temporarily down but is expected to be restored to full service shortly.

More than 250 aspiring scientists from across West Virginia gathered at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center for this exciting STEM event hosted by @WVDepartmentofEducation. Our students represented us with excellence as they presented their research, explained their methods, and impressed the judges with their knowledge and communication skills.
